Building Financial Wellness through Peer Connection
Our sudent staff are the heart of the Financial Wellness Center (FWC). As Peer Educators,
Peer Mentors, Graduate Assistants, and Student Administrators, they play a vital role
in expanding financial wellness awareness and education across the University of Utah
community.
Students can often learn best when they connect with someone who understands their
experience—and that's where our peer educators, mentors and student staff come in.
Each student role contributes to a vibrant Health and Wellness ecosytem of prevention,
education, advocacy and student support. Through peer-to-peer connection, they help
break down barriers, reducate stigma around talking about money, and make financial
topics easier to understand.

Peer Program Roles
Graduate Assistants support the Financial Wellness Center by blending advanced acadmeic
training with hands-on student engagement.
Our Graduate Assistants (G.A.s) come from both the Education, Learning and Policy Program and Family and Consumer Studies Program support financial wellness education through teaching, outreach, and applied research.
They design workshops and presentations, provide one-on-one financial counseling.
create educational conntent, and assist with program aassessment. With training in
communication, faciliation, and financial education, G.A.s serve as both educators
and mentors, strengthening the quality and reach of the Financial Wellness Center.
Peer mentors focus on intermediate-level financial support, tax assistance, and deeper
peer-topoeer guidance.
Through additional training in financial cousenling, tax filing and education and
student support skills, Peer Mentors helps their fellow peers work throuhh more complex
financial topics. They offer spaces for student-tostudent support and help connect
students to the right tools, resrouces, or services.
Peer Educators focus on foundational financial education, campus programming, and
student outreach.
Peer Educators support fellow students by offering approcahble, foundational education
and helping them navigate money-related questions and beyond with confidence.
With training ni communication and foundational financial education, Peer Educators
assist in workshops, create educational materials, and support intake sessions, and
foundational financial counseling. they focus on making financial wellness accessible,
welcoming, approchable for all students.
Student Administraotrs are the front-line support of the financial Wellness Center,
helping create a welcoming, organized, and student-centered environement.
They assist with office operations, outreach, and marketing mateirals. With training
in communication and resource navigation, Student Administrators help connect studnets
to services and keep the daily operations of the FWC running smoothly.
VITA Volunteers are key to providing free, IRS-Certified tax support to our campus
and community.
VITA Volunteers help welcome clients, assist with intake, prepare returns, and guide
individuals through important tax and financial documents. Through hands-on training
and real world experience, volunteers build valuable tax and communication skills
while supporting the Financial Wellness Center's mission during the budy tax season.
