Frequently Asked Questions

What is financial counseling, and how can it help me?

Financial counseling provides personalized guidance to help you manage your money, reduce financial stress, and achieve your goals. Our initiative offers private sessions with Accredited Financial Counselors (AFC®) and specialized volunteers who can assist with budgeting, debt management, saving strategies, and more.

Who provides the financial counseling in this program?

Our counseling team includes:

  • Accredited Financial Counselors (AFC®): Certified professionals trained to help with day-to-day money management, budgeting, debt repayment, and financial behavior change.
  • Specialized Volunteers: Individuals who have completed training under AFC® supervision to provide basic financial guidance and support.

What  professionals should I work with for my personal finances?

It depends on your needs. Here’s a quick guide:

  • AFC® (Accredited Financial Counselor): Best for budgeting, debt management, saving plans, and improving financial habits.
  • CFP® (Certified Financial Planner): Ideal for comprehensive financial planning, including investments, retirement planning, and long-term wealth strategies.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant): Recommended for tax preparation, complex tax planning, and business accounting needs.
  • Estate Planning Attorney: Needed for wills, trusts, and legal aspects of transferring assets.
  • Insurance Professional: For life, health, property, and liability coverage.

Tip: Start with an AFC® for everyday financial wellness. They can help you identify when you need to involve other professionals.
